Title Research: The Game
Hey there my enthusiastic friends! In today's blog I will be talking about the movie called the game!
Today my group mates and I used the website 'Art of the title' to find movies in the same genre as ours. Thriller. I chose to use the film ''The game'' (1997)
Immediately starting the open sequence is the name of the production company that produced this film. The words break off and the title of the movie fades slowly, presenting an eerie feeling. However, for a while after there are no titles at all, just a slow montage of the film. Towards the end of the sequence the man character is shown washing his face to suggest this montage was a daydream. I do not think my group should use this method because the titles felt rushed in the beginning and out of place. The titles seemed like they were being thrown in and not represented well. My group and I hope to use the titles to set the mood of our movie.
Images that are prioritized are images of children. Children are used throughout the entire two minutes and some of them are even repeated in different scenes. The image of a man standing next to a young boy is repeated, to create a sense of nostalgia. Towards the end of the opening sequence the producer uses a montage to quickly repeat every scene shown. There are scenes that seem to linger longer than others, the shot of the little girl eating cake at the wedding, and a group of people standing around talking at the wedding. I think these wedding scenes are going to foreshadow upcoming events. We are invited to see intimate gatherings and private moments with their family.
The film uses subtle broken glass pieces to foreshadow destruction. You can sense that something is uneasy based on the pianist's sound. The opening sequence uses dark colors at first and lots of anticipation builds. However, you are slowly disappointed when the next scenes are of happy family outings, although these outings seem happy the producers were still able to portray the incoming danger.
The journey isn't over yet! Till next time my enthusiastic friend's
