Genre research: Dark comedy

Image
My enthusiastic freinds! In this blog I will talking about the dark comedy genre. Camera Angles, Movement, and Shots:   Dark Comedy employs the use of various unusual angles to infuse certain comedic or dark elements. The use of low angles is important when establishing characters with dominance or highlighting flaws within an important character. On the contrary, high angles typically show the vulnerability of a character. Though, in Dark Comedies high angles are used to foreground the absurdity in the plotline. Dutch angles can be used to create a disorientating effect on the audience. Oftentimes, this heightens the discomfort in the narrative.    Regarding camera movements, a plethora of action-packed elements are incorporated. Most commonly, tracking shots, unsteady handheld shots, pans, zooming, and boom shots are used. To start, tracking shots are used to follow a character creating a sense of suspense. Unsteady handheld shots are often employed to contribut...

Genre research: Thriller

Image
Welcome back my enthusiastic friend's! In today's blog I will be discussing genre research.   Common camera angles I have seen in this genre are high and low angles, however high angles are more common as they convey shock and fear in thrillers. Dutch angles are also frequent in thrillers to generate an uneasy feeling or that something is ominous. Eye-level angles are frequently used with zooms to create tension or show emotion, for example, it could be used to show fear in someone's eyes.   Camera movements in thrillers that I have seen most prominently is tracking which could show someone being following. Zooms are also used as they could seem unnatural or artificial, making them perfect for thrillers. Pans and tilts are also used to show scenes and characters, but from what I have seen, tracking and zooms are more common.   Camera shots I have seen in thriller movies are establishing shots, wide shots, medium close-ups, long sh...

Pitch blog!

Image
Welcome back my enthusiastic friends! In today's blog I'm going to discuss the pitch blogs that me and my group members came up with.  Pitch A: Two friends had a falling out, and one friend never came back from it. Pitch B: A happy couple, but the boyfriend has a secret. Pitch A discussion: For this pitch idea two best friends had a falling out of their friendship. One friend is not ok with the new people they have become friends with. Fast forward 6 months later two friends are playing hide and seek when one of the friends goes missing. I really like this idea because it gives us lots of opportunity to make a good and unexpected ending. We also have the creative freedom to use many props and have multiple different scenery ideas. The twists and turns will allow us to use multiple camera angles Aswell. Pitch B discussion:  With this pitch, I can see a lot of creative shots and props we could include. The setting...

My group mates!

Image
Welcome back my enthusiastic friends! In today's blog I will be discussing my group mates for our upcoming final task in which we make an opening scene to a movie. My group members consist of my sister Marissa, my best friend riley and another friend of mine named Peyton. The four of us make a very good group as each of us have our own strengths that can contribute to the making of the final task. We are all very responsible and get our work in on time. And we all communicate on the daily so making plans on where to film and figuring out a schedule is a walk in the park. I have known riley for three years as well as Peyton. So, the relationship built between the group members is strong which helps the easy flow of the final task process. As well as the trust we have built with each other. So, if one of us says hey I got the editing part, we will all trust that she knows what she's doing. The only on-going issue with my group is that we all live pretty far from each o...

All about me... again!

My enthusiastic friend's welcome back! Since We have been gone for so long, I will reintroduce myself. I'm Mackena Modafferi and I am Italian. I'm not sure I mentioned that before. But my mom's side is from carpi and my dad's side is from Sicily. I have a huge obsession for animals and want to pursue my career in the medical field helping them. Another thing about me is my love for the beach! The way the waves crash, the sun beating on your skin, the way your face gets sun kissed. It's the only thing I truly love about Florida. And we all know my thoughts on Florida... I have two whole cases full of seashells that I have collected at the beach. I'm a huge hoarder when it comes to seashells. Something I also enjoy doing is hanging out with my friends. I have a best friend named Riley. She is someone I will be friends with for a long time. The next thing I am going to be working on is my final task! In my final task I will be making a two-minute opening t...

CCR/ Music video

  1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? My music videos product includes a type of genre known as pop. Which uses a song convention. My music video also includes a theme that ties in with the pop songs. For example, the theme of our music video is overcoming heartbreak using a love story between two firefighters. Played by Connor and Marissa Modafferi. By telling the story of a love between two coworkers as she got cheated on and had to find happiness through her job. The music video also included costumes that help accurately show the characters' life which also use a convention. For example, the firefighter gear and the boots that were shown. We used multiple different angles to shoot these scenes. For example, there is a scene on the stairs of an over the shoulder as Connor reaches for his phone and Mackena's contact name with a heart can be seen. Now the conventions that my music video does challenge woul...
